1969-1970 I was a Junior at a San Antonio high school. I was taking American History which was not such a bad thing except the class was taught by an ex-marine, who was one of the coaches for the school football team. Aside from the fact that he was a pompous jerk, he seemed to have some issues about having been a Marine, and in later contemplation he was apparently compensating for some self perceived inadequacy perhaps related to his man-Marine-Man-'merican.
Every one of his classes were horrendous, he gleefully handed out John Birch Society "literature", denounced left-wing radical war protestors, had test questions were we had to answer such test questions as
"The radical protestors are under control of A: The Government, B: College Professors, C: The Communist Party", or words to that effect.
One day he started the class with a comment, "I wanted to advise the class that there is a new protest group in addition to radical leftists, and Hippies. They are calling themselves "Women's Liberation", and they are going to take control of society. I just wanted to put that out here for your amusement.
That was the day I was driven to respect and admire feminists.
I have had no interest in Barbie growing up. I indulged my kids with them when they were little. But after reading what the message this movie is giving, now I HAVE to go see it. Thank you!!
I WANT that chicken farmer Barbie. I fall down when I wear heels. And I don't need no man!
Now I HAFTA go see that movie!
What an excellently constructed piece - esp. the end- brava!
